Entrepreneur who started with 10 rabbits with state support in the district of İmamoğlu in Adana made it possible for 78 people to open rabbit production centers within 5 years. Kasım Mesutoğlu (40), whose main profession is teaching and who started rabbit breeding as a hobby 5 years ago with 10 rabbits in İmamoğlu district, left his job as a Science teacher at a private school and invested in rabbits with state support. Mesutoğlu, who invested in rabbits with 3,500 TL capital 5 years ago, turned his hobby of loving rabbits into a profitable business, increasing the initial 10 rabbits to 4,000 rabbits within 5 years. Alp Kasım Mesutoğlu said, ‘I started with 10 rabbits. Now we have 4,000 parent rabbits. When our farm could not accommodate more rabbits, we showed this business to many other people and provided them with purchase guarantees, leading other producers to enter this sector. Currently, 78 producers have established rabbit production farms and sell to us. Rabbit farming is a very profitable livestock care business. Rabbits are the land animals that consume the least and gain the most weight in the world. Weight is crucial in rabbits. Tourists visiting our country especially show great interest in rabbit meat in hotels. There is a high demand for sales to a la carte restaurants in tourism areas.’ Mesutoğlu explained that with the start of production by 78 people, thousands of hundreds of people have also been employed, stating that they contribute to both production and employment. Şuayip Özbulut, who switched from the bakery sector to rabbit production 8 months ago, said, ‘I earn more income from rabbit production than the bakery sector. With rabbits, we relieve stress and make money. I had an expense of around 700,000 TL, and I recovered my initial investment in 9 months.’ Emrah Dağlı, who started rabbit production with 100 female and 33 male rabbits, said, ‘I started with 133 rabbits. We got our first offspring in 4 months. There was supposed to be very little death, and there was almost none. Since it was guaranteed purchase, I also started production. Fattening is actually similar to cattle and sheep, but this is a more profitable business compared to them according to my experience.’
