Students who gathered at the science festival in Erdemli district of Mersin observed through telescopes and learned about planets in the space tent while participating in many activities.
The Erdemli Science Festival, supported by TÜBİTAK in collaboration with the Erdemli Municipality and the District National Education Directorate, began at Dr. Devlet Bahçeli Square and will last for three days. In the festival area, there were approximately 52 workshops including fun science activities, game workshops, 3D design activities, STEM activities, healthy living workshops, traffic education workshops, renewable energy applications, and astronomy observations. During the festival, which featured 52 workshops, students experienced a fun learning environment and participated in various scientific experiments.
Erdemli District Governor Aydın Tetikoğlu emphasized the importance of such events and stated, “This is an event that includes projects within the scope of 4007, coordinated and supported by TÜBİTAK. Here, our universities, the Ministry of National Education, and local administrations are contributing to the event. Our children are sharing many of their hobbies, activities, and visuals related to science.”
Erdemli Mayor Mustafa Kara expressed that they would always support science events, saying, “We strive for our children, who are the guarantee of the future, to walk in the light of science. Today, we are at an event organized together with Erdemli District Governorship, Mersin University, and Toros University. There are 52 different booths. Our students are conducting their experiments at 52 different booths and learning through experimentation. As Erdemli Municipality, we will always support such science events.”
Elif Çatal, one of the staff members, conveyed their goal of educating students in the light of science, saying, “Our biggest aim is to ensure that children step into science while having fun. We will continue to guide the little explorers in Erdemli in our discovery journey workshop.”
Efe Taş, a student who expressed his love for such events, mentioned, “There are high schools, primary schools, and middle schools. Children learn very beautiful things and we saw things here that we do not see in classes. It is a very positive concept for us. I have an interest in chemistry, so I came here.”
Ahmet Derdiyok, another student who expressed his enjoyment of the science festival atmosphere, remarked, “The atmosphere here is really beautiful. We are having a lot of fun doing it together with my friend. Our teacher first had us make a Möbius strip. He had us cut these out and I am very curious about what will come out.”
