Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, which ranks 4th among the 5 metropolitan cities in Turkey in terms of the cheapest public transportation fare, offers the cheapest service in the average student ticket prices among 30 metropolitan cities. BURULAŞ General Manager Fahrettin Beşli stated, “As part of our president’s election promises; the number of student subscription rides, which was 160, has been increased to 200. The limited ride rights of our passengers over 65 years old have been updated to unlimited.”

“Per capita passenger costs have increased”

To encourage public transportation in Bursa, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality has implemented various services and continues to make decisions in favor of citizens despite the increasing cost burden. BURULAŞ General Manager Fahrettin Beşli, making statements about the recent regulations, said they continue to improve and develop urban public transport services without interruption. Reminding that there was a significant increase in public transportation service costs after the fare increase in August 2023, Fahrettin Beşli said, “In August 2023, the unit price of electricity was 2.78 TL per kWh, while today it is 3.99 TL; the price of diesel was 26.32 TL per liter, and today it is 45.92 TL. In addition to the 49% increase in the minimum wage, an additional increase of 27.73% will be made in personnel salaries within the framework of the collective bargaining agreement starting from July 2024. Accordingly, compared to last year, per capita passenger costs have increased by 79% today.”

“Student tickets are the cheapest in Bursa”

Beşli mentioned that inflation rates announced for the last year were determined as 69.80% according to TÜİK and 113.08% according to ENAG, stating that a loss of 2.2 billion TL, resulting from the lack of transportation fare increases in the past, has been subsidized from the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality’s own resources to sustain public transport services. Beşli said, “To relatively alleviate the burden of rising costs and ensure the continuity of services, it has become imperative to make a reasonable price update without passing all these increases on to the people of Bursa. Despite all these adverse conditions, we want it to be known that with the new regulation to be made in transportation fares, we are the 4th cheapest metropolitan city among the 5 metropolitan cities, and the 1st cheapest metropolitan city among the 30 metropolitan cities in terms of average student ticket prices.”

“The number of student subscription rides has been increased to 200”

Providing information about the passenger transport tariffs that will be valid as of August 1, 2024, Beşli said, “The full ticket price has been set at 20 TL. In order to contribute to our students and education, the student ticket price has been set at 5 TL with a 75% discount from the full ticket price. In addition, the number of rides for the student subscription has been increased from 160 to 200. The limited ride rights of our passengers over 65 years old have been updated to unlimited. We need the understanding and support of the people of Bursa more than ever. Our citizens can visit www.burulas.com.tr for our current passenger transport tariffs and other details.”
