A total of 1,700 women who participated in the skills and hobby courses opened in collaboration with Bayraklı Municipality and Public Education Center exhibited the handicrafts they produced throughout the season. Valuable jewelry designs, paintings, wooden products, clothes, and home accessories attracted the admiration of visitors. Approximately a thousand women from Bayraklı showed interest in the exhibition, where clothes designed by the course participants were also introduced through a fashion show.
Women drew attention to the ongoing drama with a bag they produced from a ‘watermelon’ figure representing the colors of the Palestinian flag to say ‘stop’ to the massacre in Palestine. Bayraklı Mayor İrfan Önal thanked all women for their efforts, stating, ‘In order to further increase the participation of our women in social and economic life by producing, we will continue to develop such activities and support them within our means.’
The producing women of Bayraklı who participated in the courses jointly organized by Bayraklı Public Education Center and 12 neighborhood centers and 3 cultural centers of Bayraklı, showcased a variety of products from jewelry design to home accessories, clothes to paintings, wooden painting to trousseaus at the end-of-year exhibition. In this context, handmade products of a thousand seven hundred women from Bayraklı in 22 branches met with the citizens. At the exhibition opened at Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Hall by Bayraklı Municipality Social Aid Affairs Directorate, course participants took the stage, presented the products they designed, and introduced their clothes through a fashion show. While İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Trio team provided a musical feast at the event, the performance of the Caminito Art Tango group offered colorful visuals. Participants thanked Bayraklı Municipality, public education, and support in their speeches. Bayraklı Mayor İrfan Önal, his wife Gökçe Pişkin Önal, and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay’s wife Öznur Tugay, council members, course participants, and nearly a thousand women from Bayraklı attended the exhibition.
At the end of the fashion show, women carried out an awareness campaign to draw attention to the massacre in Palestine. Women who made bags from the watermelon figure, which became a symbol after the ban of the Palestinian flag in the region, displayed it on the runway in black dresses with mourning themes. The audience supported this message of awareness with applause.
Director of Public Education Center, Özlem İnal, said, ‘We will continue to support education for women and young people who want to improve themselves and produce in our path of education everywhere and at all times.’
Bayraklı Mayor İrfan Önal congratulated all the course participants and instructors who produced beautiful works at the end-of-year event where handmade products were exhibited. He stated, ‘I congratulate all our course participants and instructors who produced beautiful works of art showcased at the end-of-year event. Approximately 1,700 of our citizens attend these courses, some for hobbies, some to acquire a profession and contribute to their household economies. We want to reach more citizens by opening courses in more fields. I promise that we will always do our part within our means to increase the participation of women in social life, production, and the economy.’ After the speeches, the ribbon of the exhibition was cut, and the stands of the course participants were visited.
