The Ministry of Trade has initiated inspections of excessive pricing in markets across Turkey. During the inspections, it was examined when the product prices changed and whether there was a difference between the shelf and the cash register prices. Teams affiliated with the Balıkesir Trade Provincial Directorate informed and warned the store managers, inspected the labels on the shelves one by one, and compared them with the prices at the cash register. The teams of the Trade Provincial Directorate in Balıkesir continue their market inspections. Inspecting chain markets in the Karesi district, teams conducted price and label price comparisons with the cash register. Speaking on the matter, Balıkesir Trade Provincial Director, Ilhan Pehlivan, said, ‘As the Ministry of Trade, Trade Provincial Directorate, in accordance with Law No. 6502 and Law No. 6585, we conduct inspections every day. Label inspection, cash register – shelf price compliance inspection, inspections for unfair price increases are carried out. To examine complaints every day, we randomly enter markets and conduct inspections. Since we started inspections, our markets have put their affairs in order. Now, there are no unlabeled products, no cash register-shelf discrepancies. A serious order has been established. Recently, there has been an amendment in Law No. 7511 in the Turkish Commercial Code. When businesses commit the same offense of unfair pricing three times in a calendar year, they face a 6-day closure penalty imposed by our Ministry. The penalties to be imposed by the Unfair Pricing Evaluation Board have also changed proportionally. Our inspections continue in this manner.’ During the inspection of a market in Karesi, an elderly citizen complained about the discrepancy between the label and cash register prices. Trade Provincial Director, Ilhan Pehlivan, informed the citizen that they could file a complaint via a mobile phone application.
