Artificial Intelligence Project by Students of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University

Students of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University made a remarkable project by bringing the national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy together with modern technology. The team, consisting of students from the Faculty of Art and Design who stand out with their work in the field of artificial intelligence, succeeded in modeling Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s style and language use with artificial intelligence by analyzing his poems with deep learning techniques. The project was created with the integration of metahuman technology and artificial intelligence.

Project Details and Comments from Contributing Students

• Furkan Köroğlu: “In the first phase of our project, we utilized the wax sculpture available at our university to obtain realistic facial features of Mehmet Akif Ersoy. We transferred this sculpture to a three-dimensional environment using photogrammetry technique.”
• Yusuf Akkuş: “Using the necessary 3D software, I created Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s hair, beard, mustache, and clothing. I believe we did the best we could.”
• Muhammet Salih Kara: “We utilized the data available at the Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Mehmet Akif Research Center within our university, mainly the primary researches. Then, we trained our artificial intelligence model by collecting certain data from the internet.”

Associate Professor Dr. Murat Kara from the Faculty of Art and Design stated that the aim of the project is to convey Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s national and spiritual personality to people, saying, “We already had an area within our university where data related to Akif was displayed as part of a research center. However, with the idea of creating a similar area in the rectorate building, we exhibited Akif’s life story, family, and relationships. There is also an area dedicated to the National Anthem and an area dedicated to the Safahat work. These are already known documents and information, but we integrated them into a project supported by artificial intelligence. This project has turned into a place that can attract people’s attention. When people visit the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Museum, they can interact with the character we provided with artificial intelligence integration and ask questions.”
