Statements from Governor Gül and Grieving Mother Nurcan Gezer
After the funeral ceremony, Governor Gül stated, “Unfortunately, our child lost her life. We also came to the funeral ceremony in Esenyurt. May Allah give patience to the family. Due to the death incident, the legal proceedings automatically initiated by the prosecutor’s office. The judicial process will continue there.”
Grieving mother Nurcan Gezer expressed her feelings as follows: “Security guards came and said, ‘Do not light a fire here, light a fire inside the barbecue.’ They all dispersed because the child was missing. How many security guards were there to search for the child, one or two? They went to the security and said, ‘There is no 5-year-old girl.’ Security comes near the well. He stretches his head out and says, ‘Your child is here, inside.’ One of our people there tries to intervene. He says, ‘Don’t jump in, it’s very deep here.’
Testimony of Witness Selçuk Yaşar
Eda’s uncle Selçuk Yaşar, who pulled her out of the puddle, said, “We were having a family picnic. I saw her lying on top of the well. I pulled her out, her lips were blue. There was no protection around, it was a known puddle. No one said, ‘There is a well here.’ The depth was already pulling me. I held onto the ground and pulled her out with one hand. It took us 20 minutes to find her. We want justice to be served.”
