Mersin Metropolitan Municipality’s ‘Summer Friend’ concerts, organized for the past 3 years during the summer months, kicked off with classical music performances.

The 2024 season of the ‘Summer Friend’ concerts held at various points in Mersin during the summer by the Department of Culture and Social Affairs started with classical music performances at the Marina. The concerts, which have been provided free of charge by the Metropolitan Municipality City Orchestra for almost 3 years to ensure that the people of Mersin have an enjoyable and musical summer, are ready to meet everyone from 7 to 70, from plateaus to coastal areas.

The concerts, starting with Classical Music Performances, received great interest from the first day. Citizens who came to the shopping center were happy with the surprise they encountered, while the Kent Orchestra Classical Music Trio wiped the dust off the ears with their performances. Citizens and children who sat on the pear armchairs placed in the performance area had enjoyable moments.

In addition to classical music performances, Mersin will have a summer full of music again with Turkish Folk and Turkish Art Music concerts held in plateaus, and pop and acoustic music concerts held on the beach, which attract the attention of young people. Eylem Matyar, the Head of Culture Services and Art Groups Department of the Department of Culture and Social Affairs, stated that they have been giving concerts in different parts of the city during the summer for the past 3 years. Matyar provided information about this year’s concert program and said, “We are organizing events to satisfy the people of Mersin in terms of music and art. Last year, we organized classical music concerts here every Thursday and it received a lot of attention. We will organize classical music concerts again every Thursday in Marina in July and August” he said.

Stating that they will also organize plateau concerts with Turkish Folk and Turkish Art Music orchestras, as well as beach concerts with a pop orchestra, Matyar noted, “Taking into account the satisfaction of our citizens, we have determined the concert venues. We invite all the people of Mersin to these events” he said.

I am passionate about art. I also play the guitar as an amateur myself. Classical music takes me out of this world” he said.
