Balıkesir İl Afet Durum Müdürlüğü (AFAD) personnel are providing theoretical and practical training in Manyas district of Balıkesir for two days. In Manyas district, which is in the first-degree earthquake zone, AFAD personnel are providing theoretical and practical training on natural disasters to institution managers, village headmen, and other public and private sector employees. While theoretical training is provided in the Mufti meeting hall, practical training is conducted in the courtyard of Manyas central Çarşı mosque. During the training sessions organized with the contributions and participation of Manyas District Governor Emre Yeşil, the first actions to be taken during a natural disaster, protection methods, and tent set-up are demonstrated. AFAD Provincial Director Bayram Şahin stated that within the scope of the ‘Turkey Ready for Disasters’ project in 2013, there should be pre-disaster preparation, intervention during disasters, and post-disaster recovery efforts, and that 2021 was declared as the Disaster Awareness Year. He mentioned that in the centenary of the Republic, search and rescue training was provided to 1120 personnel in Balıkesir, and upon the request of Manyas District Governor Emre Yeşil to increase awareness and initiate new training in Manyas, disaster awareness, pre-earthquake, post-earthquake, and during-earthquake trainings were provided in Manyas due to the presence of the Manyas-Gönen-Yenice fault line, emphasizing the importance of training. He also mentioned that there are two earthquake measurement stations in Manyas and 432 in Balıkesir. Şahin stated that there are 1639 Disaster and Emergency gathering points in Balıkesir, with 50 of them located in Manyas district, and these areas can be viewed through the e-government system. District Governor Emre Yeşil expressed his gratitude for the two-day training provided by AFAD Provincial Directorate in Manyas, stating that ‘Unfortunately, our Manyas district is in a first-degree earthquake zone, so we requested training from our AFAD Provincial Directorate to raise awareness among our citizens about earthquakes and to keep earthquake on the agenda, and they graciously came to our district and provided training for two days.
