Complaints about the 27-story building with a view of the Bosphorus have led municipal teams to start an investigation.

History and Current State of Construction

The building started construction in 1993 and has experienced interruptions from time to time, remaining in a rough construction state. Finally, construction to complete the conversion into a residence had started. However, inspections revealed that the building had corroded and was not earthquake resistant.

Developments at the Construction Site

As a result of inspections by municipal teams, all activities for the building that is decided to be demolished have been halted. A crowded day with municipal police teams present at the construction site is awaited for the demolition. Differences of opinion persist between the building owner and the residents.

Salim Akın, who has been in business in Sarıyer for 20 years, stated, “The building has a 34-year history. Although there have been many interruptions during the construction process, I have no doubt about the solidity of the building’s columns. However, as a result of the inspections by municipal teams on earthquake resistance, a demolition decision was made. In my observation, the building is in a solid condition, but I believe it is necessary to respect the decisions of official institutions.”
