In Marmaris, a district of Muğla, a reception was held on ‘King’s Day’ hosted by the Honorary Consulate of the Netherlands. During the reception, Ambassador Joep Wijnands presented a check to Governor İdris Akbıyık for 10,000 trees, contributing to the Dutch-Turkish friendship forest.

Reception Details

The ‘King’s Day’ reception, in honor of the national day of the Netherlands, took place at a hotel in Marmaris. Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık, Marmaris District Governor Nurullah Kaya, Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü, and many other guests attended the event. Following the singing of the national anthems of both countries, Ambassador Wijnands delivered a speech emphasizing the friendship between the Netherlands and Turkey.

Dutch-Turkish Friendship and Cooperation

Ambassador Wijnands highlighted the significance of Turkey’s support for the Dutch Prime Minister’s candidacy for the NATO Secretary-General position, underscoring the close relations between the two countries. He also mentioned that the donations made for the establishment of the Dutch-Turkish Friendship Forest are an important step in strengthening the friendship. Ambassador Wijnands further stated that the Netherlands will contribute to the Marmaris Art Festival and continue the cultural cooperation between the two countries. He expressed the importance of increasing mutual tourist and student exchanges, talked about Dutch investments in Turkey, and emphasized the significance of the Turkish community in the Netherlands.

Honorary Consul of the Netherlands in Marmaris, Murat Azgun, celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Dutch-Turkish Friendship Agreement and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries. Azgun drew attention to the aid provided by the Netherlands to Turkey and mentioned their support for future cultural events. Ambassador Wijnands presented a donation check to Governor Akbıyık for the planting of 10,000 trees, aiming to strengthen the green texture of Marmaris. Governor Akbıyık thanked for the tree donation, congratulating the Netherlands on their national day.
