Ambulance worker Müzeyyen Doğan, who worked tirelessly on duty to help the soldiers, police, and civilians injured in the coup attempt by FETÖ on July 15, 2016, stated, ‘When we went to the Special Operations Directorate in Gölbaşı, we were faced with a painful scene.’ During the attack carried out by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) on the General Staff Headquarters, Gölbaşı Special Operations Directorate, and Ankara Provincial Security Directorate on July 15, 2016, ambulance worker Müzeyyen Doğan, along with her team, worked tirelessly to intervene with the injured, recounting the events that took place that night at the scene. Doğan explained that she and her team were dispatched to the General Staff Headquarters upon receiving an announcement from the 112 Command Control Center on the night of July 15, stating, ‘As a team, we headed towards the General Staff Headquarters, but we didn’t know what kind of situation we would encounter. When we arrived at the General Staff Headquarters, we saw multiple ambulances there. We waited, but there were bomb and helicopter sounds above us. We were trying to understand what was happening, but we had no information. We were told not to wait in front of the General Staff Headquarters. They tried not to let us in.’ Doğan, who mentioned that they were sent to the scene after the bombing of the Gölbaşı Special Operations Directorate by F-16 jets during the July 15 coup attempt, expressed that they were faced with a painful scene at the directorate. Doğan, stating that after the bombing, dozens of police officers and civilians were waiting for help, said, ‘I tried to transport a police officer to the hospital by loading him into the ambulance. There were sirens and bomb sounds everywhere, and we didn’t know what was happening. We couldn’t even protect ourselves. We were trying to help the injured, not knowing where to run. There was no safe area.’ Doğan noted that after the Gölbaşı Special Operations Directorate, they were sent to the Ankara Provincial Security Directorate, saying, ‘We saw a police officer in between the TOMAs protecting himself. While trying to rescue him, bomb sounds were coming from above us, and the clashes continued. At that moment, we were trying to protect ourselves and intervene with the injured.’ Doğan stated that she was filled with indescribable emotions that night during the coup attempt and emphasized that her family never crossed her mind amidst the painful scene, ‘Everyone was waiting for help. Since we were in a profession where urgent intervention was needed, we did our best in every way. We prayed for this incident to end as soon as possible. We talked among our team members about what kind of scene we would face in the morning. We talked about what would happen, what happened, and why it happened.’ Doğan added that the 112 Emergency Health personnel who were not on duty on the night of July 15 fought to provide urgent care to the injured both in the ambulance and in hospitals without the concept of working hours.
