The program included a moment of silence, recitation of the National Anthem, recitation of the Quran, and the screening of a documentary prepared for the martyrs. The speeches emphasized the protection of the homeland and praised the resistance of July 15.
A commemoration program for the martyrs and veterans of July 15 was organized by Ümraniye Municipality. The event held in the courtyard of the municipality building was attended by Ümraniye District Governor Abdulaziz Aydın, Ümraniye Mayor İsmet Yıldırım, AK Party Istanbul Deputy Tuğba Işık Ercan, and citizens. The program, which started with a moment of silence and the recitation of the National Anthem for the martyrs and veterans, continued with the recitation of the Quran. Later, a video depicting the events of the night of July 15 and the screening of a documentary prepared for the 8 citizens of Ümraniye who were martyred that night were shown.
Speaking at the event, MP Tuğba Işık Ercan expressed that if we are living happily today, it is thanks to the martyrs. She said, ‘When we watch the videos related to July 15, words get stuck in our throats. We couldn’t control our tears. Thanks to the people who took to the streets against the traitors for this country and nation in 2016, we are able to live here in peace and harmony today. May Allah be pleased with them. May God accept their martyrdom.’
Mayor Yıldırım of Ümraniye stated that on the night of July 15, the nation together stopped the betrayal. He said, ‘History will never write about these cowards, history will never forgive the betrayal. Those who participated in this betrayal will never escape being remembered as traitors to the nation throughout our generations. Hopefully, history will write about them as traitors who stabbed the Turkish nation in the back.’
The program concluded with a prayer recited by Ümraniye Mufti Abdülkerim Çelik.
