The export of dried figs, which is one of Turkey’s important export products and contributes significantly to the country’s economy, reached 140 million dollars in the first half of 2024.

Dried figs, an important export product of Aydın where the world’s finest figs are grown, continues to maintain its position as a world leader in exports. While the export of dried figs, also known as the ‘fruit of heaven,’ brings smiles every day, the export figures in the first half of 2024 showed a noticeable growth. In the first half of 2024, Turkey exported 30,254 tons of dried figs, and the foreign exchange earnings from dried fig exports increased from 114 million dollars to 140 million dollars, recording a 23% progress.

In the dried fruit sector, one of Turkey’s traditional export sectors, the export quantity decreased from 227,000 tons to 200,000 tons in the first half of 2024, but the foreign exchange income increased from 722 million dollars to 829 million dollars, showing a 15% growth. The export price per ton, which was an average of 3,184 dollars in the first half of 2023, rose to 4,128 dollars in the first half of 2024, with a 30% increase. Turkey is a world leader in production and export of seedless raisins, dried apricots, and dried figs, which are listed as healthy foods by the World Health Organization. Mehmet Ali Işık, the Coordinator of Organic Products and Sustainability at the Aegean Exporters’ Associations and the President of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that they made a successful entry into the second century of the Republic and aimed to maintain the success trajectory in the second half of 2024 and reach their export target of 1.8 billion dollars for the year.
