In Turkey, which has some of the world’s most important thermal resources, the route of tourism is changing. It has been stated that in the upcoming period, tourism focusing on health and thermal aspects will be crowned, shifting away from the traditional focus on sun, sand, and natural beauties. World-renowned thermal expert Prof. Dr. Karl Ludwig Resch, who examined the investments of Kızılbük GYO in Marmaris, said, ‘If Turkey evaluates its thermal waters, it will become the center of the world in this field.’

Among Turkey’s most important tourism investments, the İçmeler Kızılbük Thermal Wellness Resort Project, which is the first high-quality thermal facility in Marmaris, has opened its doors to experts. Prof. Dr. Karl Ludwig Resch, a globally renowned thermal expert who conducted inspections at the facilities, made statements about the thermal waters in the country.

Prof. Dr. Karl Ludwig Resch from the German Health Research Institute, expressing that Turkey is virtually the center of the world in terms of thermal resources, noted that Kızılbük GYO made a significant investment in evaluating the healing sources that have a great impact on health tourism in Turkey. Having been the president of the Saxony SPA Association for many years and leading the development of health tourism and the SPA sector in Germany during this period, Prof. Dr. Resch stated that if Turkey evaluates its potential, it could become a global leader in thermal tourism.

‘Turkey earned $849.6 million from thermal tourism in the first 4 months of 2024’

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data, it was stated by Prof. Dr. Karl Ludwig Resch that in the first quarter of 2024, 428,072 foreigners came to Turkey to receive health services, and a revenue of $849,663,000 was obtained from them. Prof. Dr. Karl Ludwig Resch noted that Turkey has experienced a noticeable growth in health tourism in recent years. He expressed that Turkey is among the leading countries in health tourism, with a successful operation rate and attracting thousands of people from all over the world to receive a wide range of health services due to its geopolitical location. Prof. Dr. Resch stated that he finds it very valuable to have a project in a region like Marmaris, which stands out with its sea and natural beauties, providing alternative treatment methods.

‘The most comprehensive and largest facility I have ever seen’

After visiting the Kızılbük Thermal Wellness Resort, Prof. Dr. Resch stated that it is the most comprehensive and largest facility he has ever seen, saying, ‘Today, I came across a new project that excites me. This is the largest and most comprehensive facility I have ever seen. This place is not just where you can enjoy the sea and have a vacation, but you can also enjoy thermal water throughout the year. Visiting this water once a year will be good for your health. I am convinced, and I am sure that this project will open a new page in the Turkish thermal water tourism industry. When this thermal facility becomes operational, I have no doubt that Germans will also visit this facility.’
