Nilüfer Municipality’s project ‘We Are in the Library This Summer’, which has been organized since 2011, will bring children together in the colorful world of books this summer as well. The new phase of the ‘We Are in the Library This Summer’ project started with a colorful event held at the Ucevler Library. The project, implemented by the Nilüfer Municipality Library Directorate to ensure that children spend their summer holidays productively and joyfully, attracted the intense interest of families with its entertaining and educational workshops this year as well. The project, with the participation of 150 children and parents from Ucevler, Tahtali, Yaylacik, Demirci, Gorukle, Kurtulus, Gumustepe, and Cali neighborhoods, will offer rich content for four weeks. Since 2011, the project has been carried out every summer with the aim of introducing children to books at an early age and encouraging families to adopt this habit. In this context, children aged 5-6 living in rural areas and their families are reached through muhtarliks to ensure their participation in the activities. The project, which transforms the hot summer months into a fun learning experience for both parents and children, will continue for four weeks in libraries. Children will have a enjoyable time with specially prepared large-sized books, fairy tales, riddles, and coloring activities, while also having the opportunity to become library members and acquire gift books. Parents will both participate in this entertainment and gain knowledge on topics such as child development, reading interest, and the role of books in education. Nilüfer Deputy Mayor Okan Sahin, who attended the opening ceremony of the project, emphasized that libraries are not only places to borrow books but also centers where communities come together to learn new things and spend time together. Sahin said, ‘Such cultural activities will help our children gain self-confidence and express themselves.’ Following the opening, a drama workshop led by drama instructor Halise Paksoy was organized as the first activity. In the workshop, children had the opportunity to improve their self-confidence and communication skills while having fun. Meanwhile, parents exchanged information about child development, reading interest, and the roles of books outside of education. Nilüfer Municipality’s project, which aims to turn the summer months into enjoyable and productive meetings for both children and parents, will continue with various workshops for the next four weeks, becoming a tradition.
