Historical Bell Tower and the building of Damat Ibrahim Pasha Primary School will be restored

The historical building and bell tower dating back to the 19th century, located in the old Republic Neighborhood in Nevşehir and serving as a primary school for many years since the 1930s, will be restored by Nevşehir Municipality and converted into a tourism attraction.

During the first term of Mayor Rasim Arı, Nevşehir Municipality, which has already brought Kayaşehir, recognized as the world’s largest rock-carved slope settlement center under Nevşehir Castle, and the Church of Virgin Mary to tourism, continues its efforts to increase tourism activity in the city center. Following the increasing interest of local and foreign tourists visiting Cappadocia Region, one of Turkey’s most important cultural and touristic centers, in Kayaşehir and the Church of Virgin Mary, Nevşehir Municipality has started working on the restoration of the former Damat İbrahim Paşa Primary School building and the bell tower in its courtyard. The 4-story bell tower dating back to the 19th century, located in the courtyard of the Damat İbrahim Paşa Primary School building, which served as a school in the old Republic Neighborhood from the 1930s to the late 1990s, will be restored and contribute to the region and Turkish tourism. Authorities from Nevşehir Municipality Urban Transformation Directorate are expecting support from the former residents of the region for the restoration of the historical bell tower, which is one of the rare structures left by the Greeks living in the region, and the Damat İbrahim Paşa Primary School building, in determining the correct methods and approaches in the project studies before the restoration.

Officials have requested the former residents of the old Republic Neighborhood and Damat İbrahim Paşa Primary School to personally come to Nevşehir Municipality Urban Transformation Directorate located next to Tarık Kesekçi Park (Gülbahçe) or send their photographs, videos, documents, information, and similar archival inventories related to the bell tower and Damat İbrahim Paşa Primary School to the email address kenttarihi@nevsehir.bel.tr.
