Four people managed to catch a gigantic 154-kilogram bluefin tuna after a one-hour struggle

With the arrival of summer and the calm weather, the Mediterranean Sea has become a popular spot for fishermen. 4 friends who fish for hobby purposes set out from the town of Arsuz in Hatay on a boat to the Mediterranean Sea, and successfully caught a bluefin tuna weighing 154 kilograms and measuring over 2 meters after a 1-hour struggle. The adrenaline-filled moments in the Iskenderun Gulf were recorded by the fishermen. Despite the fishing line breaking during the capture of the fish, the fishermen did not give up the fight and managed to bring the fish onto the boat after an hour of struggle. The fishermen’s attempt to measure the enormous size of the bluefin tuna against themselves brought a smile.

Feridun Özdemir, a 50-year-old fisherman who hooked the giant bluefin tuna, said, “This fish is of the species known as bluefin tuna. It is a very valuable fish worldwide. The fish we caught was over 2 meters long, if you look at the photo or video, you will see that the fish is longer than me. My height is 1 meter 82 centimeters, and the fish is considerably longer than me. It weighed around 154 kilograms. We caught it in the Hatay Gulf. Although we do this as a hobby, I sometimes go to Izmir in the summers just to catch bluefin. We struggled for about 1 hour, our fishing rod broke at that time at the aluminum joint. Of course, it gave us a great action; one person held the rod, one person held the reel, one person steered the boat. We could only catch such a fish with a team of 4 people. Being there, the adrenaline excitement was an incredible experience. Catching such a fish with such a fishing line is a first in the region.”
