Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Kayseri Provincial Chairman Seyit Demirezen made a statement regarding the attack on Şerafettin Bahadır, a municipal council candidate in Pınarbaşı district, saying, ‘No one has any issue with Pınarbaşı Mayoralty. The heinous attack is personal. You will see once it is clarified. So, will your leader apologize for targeting us?’ Chairman Demirezen condemned the attack and wished a speedy recovery to Bahadır. In his statement, Chairman Demirezen expressed his belief that the judicial authorities will follow up on the incident, stating, ‘The duty of politicians is to reduce the increasing social tension. CHP Provincial Chairman Feyzullah Keskin held a press conference today. He is trying to act tough by saying ‘We got the message, put it in our pocket’. Keskin, maybe you don’t remember, before the Pınarbaşı elections, every time you responded to our press releases, I invited you to calmness. I said ‘Let this be our last mutual statement’. You chose to ignore it and escalated the tension in every statement. By provoking, you hurt the conscience of society. Instead of explaining your provocations, you come out and say ‘Message received’. We have repeatedly called for an end to this tension. In your press conference, you are still referring to the Pınarbaşı Mayoralty elections. Mr. Keskin, no one has opposed the will of the people. No one has any issue with Pınarbaşı Mayoralty. The heinous attack is personal. You will see once it is clarified. So, will your leader apologize for targeting us?’ Demirezen criticized CHP Provincial Chairman Feyzullah Keskin, stating, ‘It is a separate oddity to mention the events of Maraş buried deep in your mind. You talk about common sense and then mention the bloody events of the past. Your effort to create social chaos from a two-person incident has been exposed with this example of yours. Yes, no mayoralty is more important than human life. However, using a personal fight for political purposes, and portraying our MP as an instigator from the moment of the incident is unethical. We are fully behind our MPs. We will legally counteract every attack on MHP’s institutional identity and our MPs. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured citizen once again.’
