Located within sight of the shore in the district of Fethiye in Muğla, Şövalye Island, which has no road access, is hosting local and foreign tourists as the summer season approaches. Throughout history, Şövalye Island, which was used as a base by the Knights of Rhodes who hosted many civilizations, accommodates 70 buildings, 4 accommodation facilities, restaurants, and beaches on a 23-hectare area. With the increase in population due to the arrival of the summer season, the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department teams provided fire first aid training to the local residents as a precaution against potential fires that may occur on the island. Mehmet Karyağdı, the Head of the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, along with branch managers and firefighting teams, inspected the fire hydrants and fire cabinets set up on the island and provided information on what citizens should pay attention to. Osman İnci, who runs a business on the island, stated that they had intervened in 4-5 fires before, highlighting the importance of the fire department’s interest in providing training and support during fire incidents. Zeynep Kocasinan, who has been living on Şövalye Island for 19 years, mentioned that they experienced a fire about 3-4 weeks ago and thanked the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality for their efforts in educating and preparing the public for such emergencies. Dr. Erdoğan Aydın, who has been living on the island for 30 years, emphasized the significance of knowing how to provide first aid and handle fires, expressing gratitude towards the fire department for their assistance in tackling previous fire incidents. Mehmet Karyağdı, the Head of the Fire Department, stressed the importance of being cautious against potential fires and informed the public about the firefighting equipment and procedures in place on the island to ensure a prompt response in case of emergencies.
