Theater students performed the play ‘I Am Woman’

The adult students of the ‘Basic Theater Training’ course offered by the City Theater, affiliated with the Department of Culture and Social Affairs of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, presented the play ‘I Am a Woman’ they prepared at the end of the training in front of theater enthusiasts.
City Theater artists concluded the ‘Drama’ for children, ‘Theater Workshop Studies’ for young people, and the ‘Basic Theater Training’ for adults. At the end of the training, the adult group of students presented a comedy play titled ‘I Am a Woman,’ compiled from sketches directed by Özgür Ahmet Gönenler, Güvenç Gümüş, and Burak Sönmez under the artistic direction of Hülya Savaş. After 6 months of training, the students worked on the play for 2 months and successfully staged a performance that reflected the essence of the education they received. The play, which focused on the value and importance of women for humanity, received great acclaim from the audience when performed at the Yunus Emre Cultural Center. Following the play, the students also received participation certificates.

‘Our students prepared the play over a 2-month period’
Özgür Ahmet Gönenler, an actor from Mersin Metropolitan Municipality City Theater, mentioned that many actors from the City Theater provided training to the students, stating, ‘All our friends participated in the classes, provided training, and in the end, staging a play was requested. We took on the task of preparing that. It was a 2-month process. Some of our friends who completed the training couldn’t participate in the play due to their busy schedules. This team also made sacrifices from their work and came to prepare the play. It went well. We had a total of 56 students in our children’s group. We staged a play with 13 of them. We provided drama training to our children. These friends also received basic theater training and were rewarded with a performance at the end.’

A great experience opportunity for the students
Fuat Güngör, one of the students, mentioned that it was his first time experiencing such an opportunity, saying, ‘I always had thoughts like ‘Can I do it, can’t I?’ Our hard-working teachers deserve separate thanks. They sometimes dealt with us as if dealing with a child, gave effort, and showed interest. We had very enjoyable times. I have been in Mersin for 3 years. I never thought I would be involved in such an activity. I am even surprised at myself now. Swallowing the dust of the stage was truly amazing in the field of theater.’ He thanked Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer for providing them with this opportunity.

Özkan Azazi, another student, stated, ‘About 6-7 months ago, we joined the theater course opened by Mersin Metropolitan Municipality. We had very fun and enjoyable work with our teachers. We had fun and learned a lot. We thank our teachers very much. We also thank our Metropolitan Municipality and our Mayor Vahap Seçer for providing us with this opportunity. We had a very enjoyable process, and we recommend it to everyone, they should definitely experience this.’
