The ‘Ambarköy Open Air Museum’ located in Ladik district of Samsun takes its visitors on a journey to the past. Established by the Ladik District Governorship in 2010 on a 14,000 square meter area, Ambarköy reflects the characteristics of the Ottoman period in terms of wooden architecture. The village, which has 22 wheat storage barns, 4 wooden houses, 2 barns, 2 corn cribs, and 4 water wells, dazzles with the 300-year-old Şeyhülislam Mehmet Efendi Wooden Mosque. Ambarköy, designed in the concept of an open-air museum, takes its visitors on a journey to the past.

Samsun’s Director of Culture and Tourism, Cemal Almaz, who made statements about Ambarköy, said, ‘Ladik Ambarköy is a very special place. Ambarköy is like an open-air museum. It is one of the rare places where you can see all the village values of Samsun, especially rural values, intertwined and complete.’

‘There is Samsun’s past here’
Reminding that the museum was brought to Samsun by Ladik District Governorship, Almaz said, ‘There is a very old mosque here, and it is a registered mosque. We have mill rooms, flour rooms, bridges, and fountains here. We have a restaurant here. There is a place where local dishes are served. This place is both a promenade and a recreation area. People sit here, drink tea, chat, and eat. They taste Samsun’s breakfast and other dishes. Thus, we revived Samsun here. A miniature Samsun was revived, and we opened it to tourism. All our guests passing through here like it very much. They give us very nice feedback. They say, ‘we tasted a very special culture here. We tasted the local atmosphere. We remembered the old village life. We remembered the old Samsun lifestyle.’ These are the kind of feedback we receive. This is exactly what we aimed for. We also have a small museum here. We also have a small cafeteria. There is the village headman’s house. In short, Samsun’s past is here.’
