Last days for the exhibition ‘Written-Drawn by LATİF DEMİRCİ’

The exhibition ‘Yazan-Çizen LATİF DEMİRCİ’ by the writer-artist LATİF DEMİRCİ can be visited for free at İş Sanat Kibele Art Gallery until Sunday, June 30th.

The exhibition ‘Yazan-Çizen LATİF DEMİRCİ’, which brings together the half-century art life of Latif Demirci, one of Turkey’s leading cartoonists, with art lovers, can be visited for free at İş Sanat Kibele Sanat Galerisi until Sunday, June 30th.

According to the announcement, the retrospective exhibition presenting Demirci’s works in a chronological and thematic order includes the originals of all the cartoons he drew starting from the Gırgır period that began in 1975, the published versions, the albums he compiled, unseen watercolor works, and sketchbooks. The curation of the exhibition, resulting from a comprehensive archival study, is undertaken by the artist’s daughter Yasemin Demirci and his close friend, journalist İhsan Yılmaz, and the design is by Emre Senan.

The exhibition features unforgettable characters such as Canavar Koyun Orhan, Muhlis Bey, Arap Kadri, Yavlum Mithat, and Mirsat, cartoons drawn for weekly magazines like Nokta and Yeni Gündem, daily front-page cartoons that continued for many years in Hürriyet, drawings from the album ‘Çeviren Latif Demirci’ where he converted and painted the works of leading Western painters in a ‘Latif style,’ and examples from the ‘National Geoglathif’ album where he humorously depicted the complex relationship between humans and animals with masterful lines. Additionally, special works he drew for Latife Tekin’s novel ‘Berci Kristin Çöp Masalları’ can be seen in this exhibition.

The book of the exhibition, published by Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları, was prepared by İhsan Yılmaz. The texts by Yılmaz are accompanied by writings from names such as Latife Tekin, Yasemin Demirci, Turgut Çeviker, Hasan Bülent Kahraman, Selçuk Demirel, İrfan Sayar, Atilla Atalay, Tan Oral, Bahadır Baruter, Metin Üstündağ, Mehmet Çağçağ, Behiç Pek, Ergün Gündüz, Evrim Altuğ, Erdil Yaşaroğlu, and Zafer Temuçin. The book also includes the artist’s cartoons and photographs from the family album.

The exhibition ‘Yazan-Çizen LATİF DEMİRCİ’ can be visited for free every day until June 30th, between 9.00-19.00 at Kibele Sanat Galerisi.
