The ceremony of ‘ISO Green Transformation Awards’ organized by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) found its owners at a hotel in Istanbul. Minister Mehmet Özhaseki, who attended the ceremony, made statements. Özhaseki said, ‘If someone is a mayor in Istanbul and when they look back after transferring their duty and can leave with peace of mind, then they have a very important duty to prepare Istanbul for an earthquake.’ The ceremony, organized by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO), was attended by Istanbul Chamber of Industry President Erdal Bahçıvan, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, and guests. Özhaseki stated in his speech that the most important phenomenon that marks our day is the phenomenon of change, saying, ‘This phenomenon of change is both multidimensional and very fast.’ Minister Özhaseki, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, continued his speech as follows, ‘In the European Union, each is represented by a separate ministry. We have the issue of addressing the damage caused by the twin earthquakes that occurred 16 months ago as a duty we have taken over this period.’ Mentioning the need to create resilient cities in relation to earthquakes, Özhaseki said, ‘The environment issue is a sensitive issue. It is a rising value in today’s world. The whole world is paying attention, and Turkey is doing its part in this regard. When it comes to urbanism, we have the most ancient cities in the world. But in the last century, we have fallen into such weakness that when we look back, we have identityless and unhealthy structures. We must get rid of these identityless structures as soon as possible and emphasize the importance of healthy buildings. We have taken this upon ourselves as a task.’
