Firat University Faculty of Technology Automotive Engineering Department is starting to admit students in the new term after 4 years. Established in 2009 within Firat University, the Faculty of Technology continues its education activities with a 7+1 system. The faculty provides engineering education with 60% theoretical and 40% practical training. As part of the Vocational Training Program, students also receive practical training in organizations operating in the industry for one semester. The Automotive Engineering Department, established in 2010 and producing a significant number of engineers, had paused student admissions in the last 4 years. It has been announced that student admissions will resume for the 2024-2025 Academic Year in the Automotive Engineering Department. Professor Dr. Yasin Varol, the Head of the Automotive Engineering Department, stated that the department provides education and conducts research on the structure, materials, design, and development of land vehicles with different power systems. The department has a closed workshop and laboratory area of approximately 3,000 square meters, offering strong infrastructure facilities. With the updated and reinforced curriculum, in addition to internal combustion engine vehicles, education, research, and development activities on electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles in line with technological requirements will be carried out. Thus, the aim is to train engineers specialized in traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, electric-hybrid vehicles, batteries and charging systems, solid modeling, and design, alongside basic engineering education. Emphasizing that the automotive sector is the country’s strongest export sector, Prof. Dr. Varol stated that the abundance of organizations operating in the automotive sector is increasing the demand for automotive engineers. With our domestically produced and rapidly continuing TOGG branded vehicle, this demand continues to increase both in production and after-sales services. Graduates of the automotive engineering department can work as engineers in public and private sector organizations and as researchers at universities. The job opportunities for our students who graduate with the targeted education and one semester of work experience significantly increase. In addition, our department offers active master’s and doctoral programs. Thus, students who aim to continue their specialization and career development can easily pursue their postgraduate education. Our department’s ongoing international projects, industry collaborations, and numerous TUBITAK projects enable our students to actively participate in R&D activities. With a strong university, faculty, and department understanding and infrastructure, Firat University Faculty of Technology Automotive Engineering Department will start admitting students in the 2024-2025 Academic Year. In this regard, we will be delighted to see engineer candidates aiming for a career as engineers or researchers in the automotive sector in our department this year.
