The President of the Consumers’ Union, Mahmut Şahin, stated that citizens whose vehicles were damaged due to hail could claim this damage from the vehicle manufacturing companies. Over the weekend, hailstorms in Kayseri caused damage to many vehicles. The President of the Consumers’ Union, Mahmut Şahin, made an important statement concerning citizens whose vehicles were damaged by hail. Şahin emphasized that these damages could be covered by vehicle manufacturing companies upon documenting them. He mentioned that natural disasters cannot be used as an excuse in such situations. Hail is a natural event that occurs annually and its severity is constantly warned by meteorology. Therefore, manufacturers of various products such as glass, cars, awnings, pavement stones, or roofs need to consider hail, rain, and even temperature during production. With regards to vehicle manufacturers, they are the primary responsible parties. Those whose car windows are broken or bodies are damaged can claim compensation from the vehicle companies. However, it is important to note that an official report should be prepared, preferably at police stations or with witness testimonies through camera or photo evidence, documenting the damage caused by hail. If the damage is below 104,000 TL, consumers can apply to Consumer Arbitration Boards, and if it exceeds this amount, they can seek compensation through Consumer Courts regardless of the age and model of the vehicle. Şahin highlighted that precedent decisions have been made for damages caused by natural events before. For instance, damages from roofs flying off due to wind have been previously addressed. Responsibility lies with the relevant companies and compensation was received from them. Similar to cases of flying roofs, damages to other buildings and vehicles have been compensated. If there is damage due to hail, this can be considered as a precedent decision and claimed from the car company.
