AK Party Izmir Deputy and former Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mehmet Kasapoglu stated that Israel continues its oppression in Palestine without caring for anyone, saying, ‘Israel mercilessly killed the World Central Kitchen team, consisting mostly of Western volunteers, who set out to distribute hot meals to people. We will not forget any detail of this process. We will always remember the oppression carried out by Israel. Our hearts, minds, and prayers will continue to stand united with the people of Gaza and the free state of Palestine.’ AK Party Manisa Deputy and former Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mehmet Kasapoglu wrote an article titled ‘World Central Kitchen and shattered hopes’ in the English-language publication Hürriyet Daily News. World Central Kitchen, an international non-profit organization consisting mostly of Western volunteers which organizes hot meal distributions for those in need in extraordinary situations such as wars and natural disasters all around the world, lost 7 members in an Israeli bombardment. Kasapoglu mentioned the casualties in Gaza, emphasizing the magnitude of the tragedy and criticized the world’s passive stance against Israel’s atrocities.
‘The worst part is that we are getting used to children dying, innocents being bombed’ Kasapoglu pointed out that when looking at the global repercussions of Israel’s massacres in Gaza, they see that the society does not fully grasp the nature of the real destruction happening there. He criticized the fact that the heinous acts are presented through small video clips and social media posts, turning the real suffering in Gaza into mere social media content. Kasapoglu expressed concerns about desensitization towards the deaths of children and the bombing of innocents.
‘No sign of the expected pressure on Israel’ Kasapoglu mentioned the 7 members of WCK who lost their lives in an Israeli attack, emphasizing the dedication of humanitarian workers risking their lives to help the helpless. He criticized the lack of substantial reaction in the media and from civil society organizations against Israel’s deliberate attack on an international aid organization. Kasapoglu concluded his article by expressing solidarity with the people of Gaza and the free state of Palestine, and offering condolences to the families of the victims. He emphasized that remembering the details of this process is crucial and that efforts for humanity will strengthen belief in peace.
