Parents bid farewell to the students taking the AYT with prayers

The second session of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (2024-YKS) organized by ÖSYM, which is the Field Proficiency Tests (AYT), started in 81 provinces and Nicosia. Candidates and their parents who started to fill the area in front of the Faculty of Education of Akdeniz University 2 hours before the start time of the exam took souvenir photos before the exam, and the parents sending off their children with prayers drew attention.
The second session of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (2024-YKS), the Field Proficiency Tests (AYT), organized by the Measurement, Selection, and Placement Center (ÖSYM) in 81 provinces and Nicosia, started with 2 million 19 thousand 709 applicants. Following the first session of YKS, the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) held yesterday, the second session AYT started at 10:15. In the exam conducted in 6,231 buildings and 112,695 halls, 282,812 people are on duty. In AYT, which a total of 2 million 19 thousand 709 applicants applied for, candidates are given 40 questions in the Turkish Language and Literature-Social Sciences-1 Test, 40 questions in the Social Sciences-2 Test, 40 questions in the Mathematics Test, and 40 questions in the Science Test, with a duration of 180 minutes.
“We slept according to that, we woke up according to that”
While the candidates and parents who started to fill Akdeniz University in the early hours experienced emotional moments, the good wishes of the families to their children, and their prayers with their hands raised to the sky warmed the hearts. Mother Sibel Doğan, who brought her child to the exam building with close relatives, stated that she was as excited as her daughter. Doğan said, “My daughter is 19 years old, she is taking the exam for the second time. She did not get the score she wanted last year. This year, she prepared more, her goal is dentistry, hopefully everything goes as she wishes. The exam process was stressful, parents also got tired as much as the children. We slept according to that, we woke up according to that, we made plans accordingly, and spent the year like that.”
“Let children choose the department they want”
Radiye Diri, waiting for her son in front of the faculty of education, expressed that she was calm because she had witnessed the university exam excitement with her other children before, and said the following:
“My son is taking the exam for the second time, he stayed in the previous year because he failed, hopefully everything will be better this year. Actually, he had achieved his goal last year, but we couldn’t afford to send him to school due to financial impossibilities. There was no department of his own at Akdeniz University, so he chose another department. Later, he was not very happy, so he froze his school and preferred to try again this year. He wanted to study aerospace engineering. Hopefully, this process will be better for him. Actually, I want to tell parents this. If children fail in the first year, don’t pressure them too much, let them do what they want, let them choose the department they want.”
Efforts of parents to enter the exam building
During the warnings, information, and body searches made by the officials at the school, the efforts of the parents to not leave the front of the exam building and to try to go to the search point drew attention. YKS results will be announced on July 17th.
