The Mediterranean Municipalities Union informs its member municipalities about changing laws, regulations, and legislation through educational activities. The Union organized a training seminar on ‘Strategic Planning Process in Municipalities’ for the personnel of its member municipalities. Recently, the Mediterranean Municipalities Union, where Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek was elected as the president, held a meeting to continue its educational activities aimed at strengthening the development of its member municipalities in all areas. In this context, a training seminar on ‘Strategic Planning Process in Municipalities’ was organized at the Antalya Water and Wastewater Administration (ASAT) meeting hall. The first training was on strategic planning. During the opening speech of the training seminar, the Secretary-General of the Mediterranean Municipalities Union, Süreyya İşeri, stated, ‘This training is very important for local governments. We are informed about how the strategy that will determine the future work of municipalities will be formulated. Our Union President and Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Mr. Muhittin Böcek, took the first step with this training because he values ​​this strategic plan. The vision, mission, and goals of local governments will be included in this plan.’ Following this, Halil Memiş, the President of the Center for Local Government Research and Development (MİARGEM), informed the participants about the ‘Strategic Planning Process’ covering the years 2024-2029. Halil Memiş mentioned, ‘This plan, which municipalities with a population of more than 50,000 are obliged to prepare, will cover a 5-year period from 2024 to 2029. This plan should be completed within 6 months after the election. Today, we are providing training on this plan. Success is aimed at by making the staff competent.’ The first part of the training focused on explaining the Strategic Planning Process in Municipalities. The topics of ‘Current Situation Analysis,’ ‘Designing the Future,’ ‘Preparation, Monitoring, and Evaluation of the Performance Program’ were discussed, and participants’ questions were answered.
