The biggest sacrificial animals of Sultangazi sacrificial market, weighing 1,450 kilograms ‘Kantar Kıran’ and 1,650 kilograms ‘Kızıl Elma’ are waiting for buyers. As the Eid al-Adha approaches, citizens show great interest in the sacrificial sales area set up by Sultangazi Municipality. The 1,450-kilogram ‘Kantar Kıran’, the largest and smallest sacrificial animals offered for sale in the tents, along with the 1,650-kilogram ‘Kızıl Elma’ and 200-kilogram ‘Cankız’, attract the attention of the citizens. The owners also stated that their sacrificial animals are favorites for the upcoming competition.
The 1,650-kilogram ‘Kızıl Elma’ has become the favorite of the media. Veysel Günal, the seller of the largest sacrificial animals named ‘Kızıl Elma’ and ‘Kantar Kıran’, said, ‘It is the biggest bull of Sultangazi, weighing 1,650 kilograms. The price is 650,000 Turkish Lira. Of course, Kızıl Elma cannot stay calm when it sees the media. It has been fed with natural feeds for 2 years. It has now become a phenomenon in the media. I can say it is the biggest bull in Istanbul. Many buyers come and want to take photos. It is of the Simmental breed. Last year, we brought out its sibling as TOGG. This year, we decided to bring out Kızıl Elma. Hopefully, it will be sold. If not, it will be the ideal bull for the competition, and it will be put up for sale for 650,000 TL with 1,650 kilograms.’
Günal, stating that the bull named Kantar Kıran is 2.5 years old and weighs 1,450 kilograms, said, ‘It is very docile; we fed it with clover, corn, and oats. Hopefully, we are confident in the competition. If nothing goes wrong, we will enter the competition with 2 bulls this year. One will be Kızıl Elma, the other will be Kantar Kıran. Kantar Kıran is a very docile animal as you can see. Its price is 350,000 Turkish Lira. These are the two most handsome and ambitious bulls of Sultangazi.’
Recep Çolakoğlu, who said he came from Samsun Alaçam, stated, ‘Our largest animal weighs 900 kilograms live weight. Our smallest one at this market weighs 200 kilograms and is our mascot. It yields 100 kilograms of meat. It has a live weight of two hundred kilograms. It is the mascot of this place, and its name is Cankız. It attracts the attention of passersby. Everyone takes photos. And since our place is at the entrance, people take photos as they pass by.’
