A mosque built in a village in Sivas in 1986 without a minaret due to financial difficulties finally got its minaret 38 years later.

In 1986, a mosque was built in the village of Eskiçubuk, which is connected to the Gemerek district of Sivas. Due to financial difficulties, a minaret could not be built for the mosque. After 38 years without a minaret, an attempt was made to add a minaret to the mosque. When there was a disagreement among the villagers about building the minaret they wanted, benefactors Bilal and Ayfer Koç undertook the construction of the minaret. The mosque, which once looked like a residence from the outside, finally got its minaret after 38 years.

Bilal Koç, who stated that there was a disagreement among the villagers regarding the construction of the minaret they wanted to have, said, ‘There was a disagreement with the neighbors, so we intervened. We facilitated the construction of the minaret for the mosque. There had been no minaret in the mosque since 1986. We agreed with my wife and got it done.’

‘It looked like a house from the outside’
Ayfer Koç, who spent her childhood in Eskiçubuk village, said, ‘The mosque was built but it had no minaret. We were sad every time we passed by. My husband and I decided, we wanted it to be a surprise. From the outside, it looked like a house. It was not clear that it was a mosque. Now it’s good, at least it has a minaret.’

‘For two years, there has been a struggle for the minaret’
Villager Ekrem Şenol said, ‘A mosque was built in 1986. There has been a struggle for the minaret for two years. They couldn’t come together. Our benefactors decided and had it built. It turned out to be a more beautiful sight than everyone hoped for. After 38 years, a minaret appeared in our village’s mosque.’
