DENİZLİ (IHA) – Denizli Exporters Association (DENİB) President Hüseyin Memişoğlu stated that the abundance of summer has arrived, saying, ‘With a 14.8% increase, the highest monthly export since June 2022 has been achieved.’

May export data has been announced. Our country’s exports reached 24.1 billion dollars with an increase of 11.4%. While the export of Denizli announced by TİM was at the level of 416 million dollars with a 14.8% increase, the export recorded by Denizli Exporters Association was 348 million dollars with a 25.8% increase. The value Denizli’s export reached in May became the highest monthly export since June 2022. In the period of January-May, Denizli’s exports were recorded at 1.8 billion dollars with a 3.5% increase.

President Memişoğlu, evaluating Denizli’s export figures, stated, ‘As known, exchange rates have been almost stable, especially in recent months. This stability in exchange rates is below the increase in input costs. Forecasts of the US Dollar/TL by international institutions have been revised downwards since the beginning of the year. We can say that the increase rate and trend in exchange rates below inflation affect our competitiveness. Similarly, the levels of Euro/Dollar parity do not provide an advantage for exporters. Nevertheless, our exporters continue to make a difference in terms of product variety and market numbers in exports. We attribute this situation to the dynamism and experience of our exporters. We express our thanks to each of them once again. In May, exports increased in all leading sectors.’

Striking increases in alternative sectors
President Memişoğlu, evaluating the sectors, said, ‘When we evaluate Denizli’s exports by sector in May, we see that textile-apparel exports increased by 7.5% to 133 million dollars, electrical-electronics exports by 20.3% to 82 million dollars, iron-non-iron metals exports by 31.1% to 67 million dollars, agricultural exports by 8% to 30 million dollars, and mining exports by 3.7% to 27 million dollars. While 14 of our sectors increased their exports in May; striking increases of 65% in the automotive industry, 42% in dried fruits, 37% in cereals-pulses-oilseeds, 27% in hazelnut products, and 19% in the machinery sector drew attention.’

Peak once again in the UK
President Memişoğlu, commenting on the countries with the highest exports, stated, ‘When we evaluate Denizli’s exports by country in May, our exports to the leading country, the UK, increased by 29.4% to 57.1 million dollars. Our exports to Germany, in second place, increased by 17.7% to 40.3 million dollars, to the USA by 10.1% to 37.5 million dollars, to Italy by 35.8% to 35.7 million dollars, and to the Netherlands by 11% to 21.8 million dollars. Increases in exports to Egypt, Sweden, and Libya from Denizli in May were noteworthy. Our country’s economy grew by 5.7% in the first quarter of the year. Net exports contributed 1.6 points to growth. As we focus on factors that will increase our international competitiveness with the recovery in global demand, we can clearly state that our exports will contribute even more to growth.’

Denizli once again left its mark on Hometex Fair
President Memişoğlu, stating that they continue to promote Denizli home textiles as DENİB, said, ‘At the Hometex 2024 Fair held at the Istanbul Fair Center on May 21-25, 2024, a total of 109 companies, 103 from Denizli and 6 from Uşak, members of Denizli Exporters Association, participated as exhibitors. Our member companies hosted important players in the home textile sector and presented the difference they created with sustainable production approach and quality to buyers from various countries. As Denizli Exporters Association, we once again took our place at the fair with our Turkish Towels brand and promoted the Denizli home textile sector. In addition, our member companies held meetings at our Turkish Towels stand. We will organize a delegation to the UK in June and participate in the fair in Algeria. Within the scope of the Foreign Marketing Program of the Denizli Home Textile Sector URGE project to be held in London, UK on June 25-28, 2024, 12 of our companies from Denizli will participate. In the delegation organized in the form of bilateral business meetings, our companies will also have the opportunity to conduct market research. At the same dates, as Denizli Exporters Association, we will introduce our exporter sectors by participating in the 55th Foire Internationale d’Alger (FIA) – Algeria International General Trade Fair, where Turkey will be the ‘Guest of Honor Country.’
