The husband of former Prime Minister Tansu Çiller, Özer Uçuran Çiller, passed away after suffering a heart attack the day before yesterday. Following the funeral ceremony held after the noon prayer at Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque in Levent, Çiller was laid to rest. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also attended the ceremony.
Former Prime Minister Tansu’s husband, Özer Uçuran Çiller, suffered a heart attack at his home in Yeniköy the day before yesterday. 86-year-old Özer Çiller passed away. Today, a funeral ceremony was held for Çiller at Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque in Levent. The ceremony was attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Former Vice President Fuat Oktay, Minister of Family and Social Services Mahir Özdemir Göktaş, Former Good Party leader Meral Akşener, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, AK Party Istanbul Deputies Derya Ayaydın and Murat Kurum, AK Party Istanbul Provincial Chair Osman Nuri Kabaktepe, Former Minister of Interior Mehmet Ağar, Democrat Party Chairman Gültekin Uysal, and many citizens.
After the funeral prayer performed following the noon prayer and the recitation of prayers, Çiller’s body was buried in Kilyos Cemetery.
Speaking after the funeral prayer, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “Our brother Özer has had significant services in the country, especially in the field of economy, since his past. Likewise, his wife Tansu Hanım served our country as Prime Minister. He had been unwell for a long time in recent years. We will take steps to use the opportunities he has gained for our country’s future. I had the opportunity to meet him in recent times. May God rest his soul in heaven. I extend my condolences to all who knew him, his family, and friends. As we bid farewell, let us all recite a Fatiha together.” After the speeches, President Erdoğan was seen carrying the coffin.
