“We want to bring Beyoğlu to better days together”
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Women’s Faces Festival, Mayor of Beyoğlu İnan Güney stated, “In the 2nd century of the Republic, women aim to be more visible in every aspect of society, as well as in art. This goal has become a tradition. This goal has been advancing day by day and has become a yeast. Dear friends, we hope to bring Beyoğlu to better days together. The people of Beyoğlu have given us the authority for this. The people of Beyoğlu have given the authority for the problems to be solved. Some of the people of Beyoğlu, the residents of Beyoğlu said ‘we want culture and art back to Istiklal Avenue.’ 1.5 million Istanbulites established an emotional connection with us for this reason, and these demands were very valuable to us. And of course, there were also the residents of Beyoğlu. From Kasımpaşa to Sütlüce, also in our Cihangir region, they have had problems continuing for 30 years in their daily lives. What were these? Parking lots, urban transformation, so during the election process, we said we will unite the two sides of Beyoğlu. The demands of 1.5 million Istanbulites who use Beyoğlu are also very valuable to us. Just like today, the demands of my 218 thousand neighbors in Beyoğlu are very valuable. As a management that will provide solutions to both, hopefully, the destiny of Beyoğlu for the next 5 years will not be a backward movement. We need the support of art, the support of artists to reverse this backward trend in Beyoğlu together. But most importantly, as a father of 3 daughters, I say we need the support of women, and I thank you all for your efforts once again.
