Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Sahin visited the TÜRASAŞ factory in Sakarya, where the first domestic and national train sets for GAZİRAY were produced, and gave good news to the people of Gaziantep and Turkey, stating, “The engine of our train sets is one hundred percent domestic and national. This has been achieved for the first time and done by Turkish engineers. It will be a first when completed.” The production of domestic and national train sets for the GAZİRAY Project, which converted the old train line into a high-speed train line by the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, continues. Mayor Fatma Sahin and the technical team received information about the current status of 8 electric train sets consisting of a total of 32 wagons produced by TÜRASAŞ, which are planned to be delivered by the end of the year. The control systems are being produced domestically and nationally by ASELSAN.
Mayor Sahin and her team visited the production lines at the factory and saw the interior design of the trains. The electric train sets, determined as “Baklava Yellow” through a survey participated by the people of Gaziantep, are being completed taking into consideration the characteristics of Gaziantep, from the fabric used in the seats to the baklava pattern on the seat handles. In addition to the engine of the electric train sets, the domestic and national control system produced by ASELSAN stands out. With the arrival of the new train sets, the initially transported daily passenger number will increase sixfold.
The electric train sets, which will arrive in the city in November upon completion of production, will start serving after test drives. GAZİRAY, which is 25.5 kilometers long and carries 10,000 passengers daily, is expected to transport 60,000 passengers daily as the first target with the new train sets. Mayor Fatma Sahin, in her statement after the inspections, emphasized the transformation of the land train line with the GAZİRAY Project and the significant contribution to the city’s public transportation. She mentioned that the motor of the train set produced one hundred percent domestically and nationally will be assembled and tested at the end of this year. She also mentioned that the color of these train sets was determined through a survey conducted with the public on social media, and the color Baklava Yellow was chosen.
Mayor Sahin continued her statement by saying that the production is now coming to an end, and the completion time estimated was affected by the pandemic. She thanked the entire team for overcoming the difficulties faced due to the pandemic and stated that most of the work has been completed, leaving only a little. She expressed excitement and impatience for the arrival of these train sets in Gaziantep at the end of the year. She also shared the news that the engine of the train sets is one hundred percent domestic and national, which is a first and made by Turkish engineers. TÜRASAŞ General Manager Mustafa Metin Yazar mentioned that the first domestic and national train set produced by TÜRASAŞ will be used on the GAZİRAY line.
He stated that the serial production is ongoing, shipments will start at the end of the year, and there are no deficiencies in terms of orders and supplies. He mentioned that all the train’s propulsion system was designed and produced domestically and nationally, and the systems controlling the entire train were also realized domestically and nationally. He added that the first domestic and national train set produced by TÜRASAŞ will be used on Gaziantep’s GAZİRAY line.
