An Innovation Center related to precision agriculture systems was opened in collaboration with the GAP Regional Development Administration at Batman University.
A seminar on ‘Precision Agriculture Systems and Energy in Agriculture’ was held at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences conference hall on the West Raman Campus of Batman. Following the seminar, the opening ceremony of the Innovation Center at the Faculty of Architecture and Engineering was conducted. During the ceremony, Governor Ekrem Canalp, Rector Prof. Dr. İdris Demir, Agriculture Provincial Director Mehmet Aydın, protocol members, and participants cut the ribbon together. Information about the Innovation Center was provided to the guests by the Energy Coordination Center managers Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Ertuğrul and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Rıda Tür.
In his opening speech, Rector Prof. Dr. İdris Demir of Batman University emphasized that the Innovation Center to be opened will contribute significantly to the modernization of the agricultural sector and increasing energy efficiency. Rector Demir pointed out that supporting the agricultural sector with modern technologies is essential for both human food and economic development. He expressed his pride in the university’s support for regional development through innovative approaches and precision agriculture practices.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Rıda Tür stated, ‘We opened the Innovation Center for precision agriculture and energy efficiency in collaboration with the GAP Administration at Batman University. In this Innovation Center, we will mentor projects aimed at increasing energy efficiency for farmers and agriculturalists, improving efficiency in agriculture, and focusing on precision agriculture. In the first phase, we will initiate a study focused on second-product orientation in our farmers’ own crops. We aim to provide mentorship to increase yield in second product cultivation. Following that, we have projects to increase efficiency in energy use in agriculture through motor type selection and technological drip irrigation systems to enhance productivity. We will both save electricity and energy here and aim to bring out efficient agricultural products that promote precision agriculture. Hopefully, it will be a center that will continue to operate effectively in agricultural activities in Batman and the region.’
Research Assistant Esra Okudur stated, ‘Precision agriculture has become an important agricultural production management in recent years. Smart agricultural systems and digital agriculture have started to focus on precision farming. As Batman University, we will establish vertical farming systems in smart agricultural systems with a new project we will implement. This system will provide farmers with the opportunity to see on-site.’
At the end of the seminar, Rector Demir presented gifts to the speakers, Batman Agriculture Provincial Director Mehmet Aydın, chamber presidents, and Research Assistant Esra Okudur who gave a presentation. The program was attended by Batman Agriculture Provincial Director Mehmet Aydın, chamber presidents, academicians, and a large number of students.
