President of Hakkari Chamber of Craftsmen and Artisans Union (HESOB) Muharrem Tekin, along with local NGOs in the province and districts, visited Mustafa Gümüş, the General Manager of Customs Administrations, and Selahattin Bayramçavuş, Deputy General Manager of Highways, to convey the difficulties experienced in Hakkari and its districts. President of Hakkari Chamber of Craftsmen and Artisans Union (HESOB) Muharrem Tekin, also the President of Hakkari Drivers’ Chamber Abdi Arslan, President of Yüksekova Drivers’ Chamber Selami Durna, and Ayhan Atsız, met with Mustafa Gümüş, the General Manager of Customs Administrations, to discuss the improvement of Customs conditions in Hakkari’s Border Gates and with Selahattin Bayramçavuş, Deputy General Manager of Highways to address transportation issues. During the meeting with the General Manager of Customs Administrations, they discussed the improvement of infrastructure at Derecik and Üzümlü Border Gates and transforming them into modern customs gates for trade purposes. They requested extending the operating hours of Derecik and Üzümlü Border Gates, increasing the number of passport counters, keeping Derecik Border Gate open on weekends, and starting vehicle crossings as soon as possible. In the meeting with the General Directorate of Highways, they discussed expediting the Hakkari-Van and Yeniköprü tunnels and opening them to traffic before winter. They also talked about improving the Hakkari-Şırnak Highway, constructing a tunnel between Çığlı and Ortaköy, monitoring road repairs, increasing the number of vehicles and machinery at Highway branch offices, repairing and illuminating Depin avalanche tunnels, constructing pedestrian sidewalks in the Schools area on the Yüksekova Dağlıca road, and building the median strip on Yüksekova Ipekyolu. General Manager of Customs Administrations Mustafa Gümüş expressed their commitment to work for the region, stating that the infrastructure works of Derecik and Üzümlü Border Gates are in the program, and they will initiate work for the requested measures such as extending operating hours, increasing passport counters, and keeping Derecik Border Gate open on weekends. Selahattin Bayramçavuş, the General Manager of Highways, assured that the roads and tunnel will be operational within this year, and they will start work to resolve transportation issues, begin maintenance work on the median strip and sidewalks on Yüksekova Ipekyolu, initiate sidewalk works in the Schools area on Dağlıca road, and open at least one of the tunnels within this year.
