  • Turkey is competing for the top spot in fiber to the home in Europe

By continuously pursuing fiber infrastructure projects and extending the fiber network length to 437 thousand kilometers by the end of 2023, Turkey, with the intensive efforts of Türk Telekom, has risen to second place in fiber to the home access in Europe according to the FTTH Council Europe.

Türk Telekom, one of the pioneers in Turkey’s digital transformation, continues to increase its investments in fiber infrastructure to provide accessible high-speed internet for everyone. By weaving Turkey with end-to-end fiber networks and reaching a fiber infrastructure length of 437 thousand kilometers, the company has elevated Turkey to second place among European countries in FTTH/B (fiber to the home) access numbers. According to the FTTH/B Market Panorama in Europe report dated September 2023, announced by FTTH Council Europe on March 20 in Berlin, Germany; Turkey ranked second in FTTH/B data with 18 million household accesses, following France in Europe.

Stating that they have woven Turkey with end-to-end fiber networks to provide accessible and high-speed communication for everyone, Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal said, “While leading Turkey’s digital transformation, we continue our investments tirelessly to connect users in every corner of our country with high-speed internet, not just in the central regions but everywhere. With our pioneering role in innovative solutions, we continue our efforts to become the technology provider of our region and to position Turkey as a leader in the world of next-generation technologies. Working day and night for the indispensable fiber infrastructure for next-generation technologies and 5G, we are laying fiber to every corner of our 81 provinces. We are successfully carrying out the fiber infrastructure process that will enable the efficient operation of 5G and new generation technologies in Turkey with a solid strategy. The current report of FTTH Council Europe also proves how determined we are in this regard.”

Emphasizing their locomotive role in Turkey’s digital transformation journey, Ümit Önal said, “To provide the fast and uninterrupted communication service required by the new digital world, we are weaving every corner of Turkey from east to west, north to south, with fiber networks. By increasing our fiber investments every year, we are reaching not only profitable but also lucrative areas. According to the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) Report for the third quarter, as Türk Telekom alone, we have established 427 thousand kilometers of the total fiber network length of 549 thousand kilometers. As of the end of 2023, we have increased our fiber network length to 437 thousand kilometers. Turkey ranks among the leading countries in Europe in terms of fiber infrastructure. According to the report prepared based on the September 2023 data of FTTH Council Europe, we are the second country in Europe with 18 million households in FTTH/B (fiber to the home) access numbers. We were in third place in the previous report of the same council. Our rise to second place in such a short time is a significant indicator of how determined and consistent we are in working on fiber infrastructure. Moreover, it is prideful for us to be among the top 5 countries in Europe in both fiber to the home access increase and subscriber increase. With our efforts that add value to every aspect of life in the Turkey Century, we aim to build an accessible digital future for everyone without exception. As Türk Telekom, we will continue to lead this journey by strengthening our technological expertise with the right investments, with an approach that focuses on people.”
