19 May was celebrated in Ümraniye with a ‘Youth and Sports’ march
On the occasion of the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day on May 19th, Ümraniye Municipality organized a Youth and Sports Walk. The walk was attended by 1,500 athletes and 200 trainers from 35 different branches, accompanied by a Janissary band and large flags. The event celebrated the 19th of May, Atatürk’s legacy, and the youth with various activities and competitions.

On the occasion of the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, Ümraniye Municipality made a distinctive event by organizing the Youth and Sports Walk. The event, which took place with the participation of 1,500 athletes from 35 different branches and 200 trainers, started with athletes gathering on Alemdağ Street, closed to traffic. Mayor of Ümraniye, Ismet Yıldırım, also participated in the walk and took place at the forefront with the youth. Athletes, accompanied by the janissary band, sang anthems and concluded the walk at the old power plant square. Mayor of Ümraniye, Ismet Yıldırım, received cheers and took photos with intense interest from athletes and other citizens during the walk.
After a minute of silence in the spiritual presence of the founder of the Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and all martyrs, the celebrations began.
Speaking after the walk, Mayor of Ümraniye, Ismet Yıldırım, said, “Today is our 19 May Youth and Sports Day. We are having a flag ceremony on Ümraniye Alemdağ Street with our youth, elders, and everyone. No country in the world has a holiday for its children on April 23 or for its youth on May 19. Fortunately, this holiday has been given to our youth in this country. I congratulate our youth. Our youth are dynamic. We are proud of our youth who love their country, nation, religion, homeland, and flag.”
The walk, organized within the framework of the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day activities, concluded with a minute of silence, the reading of the National Anthem, and the walk.
