Zindankapı, whose restoration was completed by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and opened to service, dating back to the 200s BC, hosted another important event as the Contemporary Art Gallery. The show prepared by artist Garip Ay combining the art of marbling (ebru) with mapping technology provided a visual feast for the audience. Bringing art lovers in Bursa together with concept exhibitions, Zindankapı Contemporary Art Gallery hosted artist Garip Ay’s ‘Ebru mapping’ show on May 18th, International Museum Day. The marbling work on water by Garip Ay was reflected on the historic walls using mapping technology. In the evening where a visual feast was presented to the audience, the art of marbling was combined with mapping technology to create a bridge between the past and present, tradition and innovation. Speaking at the ceremony where Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Kamil Özer and Head of Culture and Social Affairs Department Şafak Baba Pala also attended, Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Mehmet Yıldız congratulated all guests on May 19th, Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. Saying that they watched an unforgettable work within a historical structure, Mehmet Yıldız stated, ‘We hosted an important work at Zindankapı Contemporary Art Gallery on May 18th, International Museum Day. This place is a historical structure that dates back to the second century BC, starting from the Kingdom of Bithynia and reaching the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman World Empire, and up to the present day. In fact, it is a place where a cultural fusion takes place. I thank everyone who contributed to the unveiling of Zindankapı. It includes many spaces from digital exhibition areas to mapping halls. Bursa is an important city with its history and culture. It is beautiful in winter, in summer, in spring, and in autumn. We must open up this city to the outside world. As local governments and non-governmental organizations, we must all together elevate the value of Bursa. I congratulate those who contributed to the organization.’ Artist Garip Ay expressed great excitement to be in Bursa. Ay, who stated that he has done many works to show that marbling art can be watched, said, ‘I have also worked on this abroad. With the exhibition in Bursa, I had the opportunity to advance this practice further. I hope you like it.’
