The road between Salda Lake and Ilyas Village, planted on the edge of Lake Burdur and surrounded by colorful views and fragrant scents, has been named Rose Road by the Governorship. Rose Road is aimed to make significant contributions to both eco-tourism and the economy of Burdur.
The Rose gardens were planted on the Karakent and Ilyas village lands by the Lisinia Nature Project initiated about 15 years ago to save Lake Burdur. The roses planted contribute greatly to the Burdur economy, both through the extracted oil and the tourists visiting for sightseeing.
With the aim of further revitalizing eco-tourism, Lavender Road from Salda Lake to Ilyas Village was also named Rose Road through the joint efforts of Burdur Governorship, Provincial Special Administration, Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Directorate, Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, and Lisinia Nature.
The road that visitors to Salda Lake have been using to explore Lavender gardens will now also be used for rose gardens.
The opening ceremony of the Rose Road in the Lisinia Project Area was attended by Burdur Governor Türker Öksüz, Members of Parliament Adem Korkmaz and İzzet Akbulut, Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism İbrahim Emre Gürsoy, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Colonel Mustafa Güder, Secretary General of the Provincial Special Administration Asım Ertilav, Lisinia Nature Project founder Öztürk Sarıca, and protocol members.
Speaking at the opening, Öztürk Sarıca said, ‘We have been carrying out projects here as Lisinia Nature for about 15 years. One of our most important projects is Lake Burdur. Due to global warming, we are losing our lake. The rose also consumes very little water and can grow without water above 1300 altitude. We are in one of the places where the rose culture began. The route from Ilyas village to Salda Lake is also a natural rose route. For the past two years, we have been carrying out projects to revitalize eco-tourism related to roses on this route.’
Governor Türker Öksüz said, ‘Today, we are all together for our Rose Road project, launching the Rose Road project as an eco-tourism activity in our province. Our goal is to introduce the values that contribute to cultural tourism, which constitute the natural beauties with its plateaus, Sagalassos Ancient City, Kibyra Ancient City, Salda Lake, and plateaus, and cultural heritage, and to get a significant share from the tourism cake through eco-tourism. This region is famous for lavender. Today, we also want to turn the Lavender road into a rose road. Our aim is for all local and foreign visitors to truly get to know our city, which is very advanced in eco-tourism, to get to know the traditional culture of this place, and to contribute to our city. For this, hopefully, our Provincial Special Administration, together with our other public institutions and organizations, will implement a project that will provide added value to our city, contribute economically, and serve the development of the local people. I thank everyone who has contributed. I hope that diversifying tourism will be a significant step and by expanding and continuing the project, we will be able to attract more visitors. We invite all visitors, whether from Turkey or abroad, to see this lavender road and rose road in our city.’
After the ceremony, Governor Türker Öksüz and protocol members went down to the rose gardens and picked roses.
