Warning from the Faculty of Engineering at Şırnak University

Assistant Professor Ibrahim Behram Uğur from the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering at Şırnak University emphasized that Şırnak is located in an earthquake zone and on an active fault line. He also noted that settlements such as Adıyaman, Bitlis, and Hakkari are also at risk of earthquakes.

Fault Lines and Current Maps

Dr. Uğur stated that the map of active fault lines in Turkey was updated in 2012 following the earthquakes in Şırnak. He mentioned the presence of the Cizre fault line among the fault lines affecting Şırnak, which was updated in the active fault map in 2013.

Quality and Durability of Building Materials

Dr. Uğur emphasized the use of C30 classified concrete and high-quality construction iron in building construction, highlighting the necessity of shear walls to increase building rigidity.

Earthquake Safety and Building Inspection

Dr. Uğur stated that they were assigned by the Ministry of Interior to inspect buildings in earthquake zones. He explained that they report on the condition of unfinished buildings after earthquakes, making striking findings about the general state of the building stock. He also mentioned that new buildings constructed comply with the 2018 earthquake regulation and are safer.
