Renowned surgeon Prof. Dr. Cevat Yakut, who performed the first heart transplant operation in Turkey, has passed away in Istanbul. The beloved doctor, who paved the way in the medical field, was bid farewell to his final journey after the funeral held at Levent Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Mosque.
Ceremony and Participants
Many important figures such as Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney, and former Minister of Justice and Interior Mehmet Ağar attended the funeral ceremony held in honor of Prof. Dr. Cevat Yakut. Yakut’s family and numerous friends were also present at the ceremony.

Prof. Dr. Cevat Yakut’s wife, Çiğdem Yakut, emotionally expressed, “It was fate. Cevat was a humble person who never boasted about his achievements. He found joy in witnessing the kindness extended to him.” Yakut also contributed to the training of many young doctors in Turkey.
Head of Cardiovascular Surgery at Koşuyolu High Specialty Training and Research Hospital, Prof. Dr. Kaan Kırali, stated, “Cevat Yakut was a pioneering figure in heart transplant, coronary bypass surgery, and aortic surgery in Turkey. We are saddened by his unexpected loss.”
