The South Aegean Development Agency (GEKA) organized a project introduction meeting for the GastroMuğla project in collaboration with Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Muğla Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Trade Directorate, and Muğla Chamber of Commerce and Industry under the coordination of Muğla Governorate within the scope of the 2023 Technical Support Program. The meeting was attended by Sevim Akbıyık, the wife of Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık, GEKA Secretary General Özgür Akdoğan, Chairman of the Board of MUTSO and Member of the GEKA Board of Directors Bülent Karakuş, and other relevant institution representatives.

Trainings and Contents

During the GastroMuğla project introduction meeting held at the Muğla Chamber of Commerce and Industry, trainings were provided on topics such as Geographical Indication: Basic Concepts, Application, Registration and Inspection Processes, Geographical Indicated Products in Muğla and Ongoing Application Process. Additionally, topics like Gastronomy Tourism, Market Analysis, Regional Collaborations, and Event Development were discussed.

Goal: Promotion of Muğla Cuisine

The President of MUTSO, Bülent Karakuş, emphasized the significant potential of gastronomy tourism in the region with Muğla’s rich gastronomic heritage. In this regard, the promotion, branding, and revitalization of gastronomy tourism in Muğla are aimed at. Thus, by supporting the sales and marketing of local products, gastronomy tourism awareness will be increased.

Geographical Indicated Products of Muğla

As a result of the research conducted within the project, many geographically indicated products specific to Muğla were identified. These include Bodrum mandarin, Fethiye rock fig, Milas olive oil and çekişke olives, Marmaris peanuts, and Köyceğiz orange. The promotion and marketing of these products will be supported within the project, thus reaching Muğla’s geographically indicated products to wider audiences.
