Turkish Fishing Boats and Fishing Areas
There are approximately 1600 industrial fishing boats in Turkey. These boats continue their fishing activities in various waters both domestically and internationally. After the fishing ban starting on April 15th, some fishing boats are particularly heading towards the Atlantic and Indian Oceans for fishing.
International Relations and Fishing Agreements
Turkey has signed agreements on fishing with 12 countries, mainly African countries, in the field of fishing. In addition, negotiations for agreements are ongoing with 15 countries. Turkish fishing vessels, within the scope of these agreements, fish various fish species in different geographies such as the shores of West Africa. Fishing boats departing from the Eastern Black Sea play an important role in fishing in international waters.
Due to fluctuations in the fisheries sector in Turkey, industrial fishing boats face challenges. In response, Turkey is exploring new fishing grounds by signing bilateral fishing agreements with countries engaged in fishery production, aiming to increase the fishing quantity of fishermen.
