Restoration Information from the Director of Sivas Foundations Region

Sivas Foundations Regional Director Cemal Karaca provided information about the restored Divriği Grand Mosque and Hospital. Among the noteworthy details during the restoration process is the cleaning done with dental tools.

History of Divriği Grand Mosque and Hospital

Constructed by Ahmet Şah and his wife Melike Turan Melek during the reign of the Mengücek Principality affiliated with the Anatolian Seljuk State, the Divriği Grand Mosque and Hospital was built between 1228-1243 by Muğis son Ahlatlı Hürrem Şah.

Completion of Restoration and Details

With the completion of the 9-year restoration works at the Divriği Grand Mosque and Hospital, the structure contains over 10,000 different motifs. It is noted that during the restoration process, the silhouette of a praying person on the gate to heaven and the crown gate becomes visible at certain hours. The structure, protected by UNESCO, will be open for visits and prayers with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Sivas Foundations Regional Director Cemal Karaca emphasized the cultural and social importance of foundations during a press conference related to the Foundation Week celebrated between 6-12 May. Karaca stated that foundations represent the culture of mutual aid and solidarity that has been ongoing from the past to the present.

Cemal Karaca provided detailed information about the restoration works carried out at the Divriği Grand Mosque and Hospital. It is mentioned that during the restoration, stone surfaces were cleaned using micro motors and dental tools. Additionally, it was stated that structural reinforcement, conservation, and landscaping works in the structure have been completed.
