The Science Village in Antalya opened its doors to students as schools entered the mid-term break. Students, who have the opportunity to participate in scientific, artistic, and sports activities in a nature-integrated environment, are both gaining new knowledge and having a good time.
The Science Village, which was established by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality in Boğazkent, Serik district, welcomes students during the mid-term break, allowing them to have an enjoyable time. Students who have the opportunity to be in nature find both fun and learning opportunities. A team from the İsmail Baha Sürelsan Conservatory is also providing rhythm lessons to raise children’s awareness about music. This training supports the children’s interest in music while contributing to their development as conscious individuals.
Nature-Integrated Activities
Emel Demir, the person in charge of the Science Village at the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality’s Youth and Sports Services Department, stated that they organize educational activities for students aged 10-14. Demir said, “Here, our students have the opportunity to learn and have fun through scientific, sporting, and artistic activities integrated with nature. We aim to highlight our children’s skills with expert educators in their fields.”
“They learned about bird migrations and natural life”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Karaardıç, a faculty member at Alanya Alaeddin Keykubat University’s Faculty of Education, said they provided information about bird migrations to introduce the region’s natural features to the children at the Science Village. Karaardıç noted, “Boğazkent is a very important region in terms of bird migrations. We have been conducting research here for years. During the mid-term break, we explained to the students the characteristics of migratory birds, how bird banding is done, and the reasons for establishing such a station here.”
“I would love to come back here again”
Emel Arslan, a parent who participated in the activities with her children, said, “It has been very good for us that our children can have fun in such a beautiful facility. We are very pleased with the activities conducted at the Science Village.” Student Fatma Zehra Ardıç expressed her satisfaction with the activities at the Science Village, saying, “I am very happy to be here. I made new friends, and we learned about birds. I loved my teachers and the friends I met here.” Another student, Abdil Aydın, said, “I had the opportunity to play football, basketball, and volleyball here, and we also took rhythm lessons. I would love to come back here again.”
