HÜDA PAR General President Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu and his accompanying delegation met with families who are on a vigil for their children.
Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu, the General President of HÜDA PAR, who came to Diyarbakır for a series of contacts, met with families who have been holding a vigil for their children in front of the former HDP Diyarbakır Provincial Directorate for 1,898 days, claiming that their children were deceived and abducted by the PKK.
Yapıcıoğlu, who spoke with families in the tent set up for the vigil, later made statements to the press.
Reminding that mothers with broken hearts have been on vigil here for more than five years to demand their children who were taken to the mountains, either deceived or taken with some promises, Yapıcıoğlu said that five years have passed and it is now the sixth year.
Stating that 56 families have reunited with their children after their actions so far, Yapıcıoğlu said, “A total of 379 families continue this vigil. When I ask these families when their children went, with a few exceptions, the vast majority were taken in 2014-2015. These are the years when the resolution process was discussed and later failed.”
Saying, “In 2014, there were discussions about laying down arms, in 2015 the process began to deteriorate, but there was still hope for a solution,” Yapıcıoğlu stated, “It was called the resolution process, but in fact, it was a process that would not lead to a solution; maybe a temporary ceasefire process was being experienced. The fact that the majority of these young people were taken to the mountains during those times is a clear indication that there was no intention to lay down arms or reach a political solution. At that time, we pointed out the wrongness of the path being followed and said that no solution would come from this path. Today, again, discussions about laying down arms and ending violence are taking place. Whatever the problem is, it is emphasized that it must be discussed and resolved through political means.”
Expressing that they have made a call from where they have been vigil with mothers who have been suffering for more than five years, Yapıcıoğlu said, “We say that if a new process is going to start, take the first step by handing over these mothers’ children as a sign of good faith so that we can believe in your sincerity. If you are not going to do this, then you, who took so many young people to the mountains in a festive atmosphere in 2015, have no intention of laying down arms at all. If you can show this will and actually end the pointing of guns at each other among the youth of this country, then we will believe that you have the will.”
Yapıcıoğlu was accompanied by HÜDA PAR Mersin Deputy Faruk Dinç, HÜDA PAR Deputy General President Mahmut İrtem, HÜDA PAR Diyarbakır Provincial President Zeynul Abidin Gülsever, and many party members.
