Yılmaz Vural’s dream of Fenerbahçe has come true, even if partially.

In the Legends Cup held in the Serik district of Antalya, former Turkish and German football stars came together. Yılmaz Vural served as the head coach of Fenerbahçe in the tournament.

This year, the tournament, held for the 9th time at the Belek tourism center, featured 8 teams including Antalyaspor, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, Hannover 96, 1. FC Nürnberg, Schalke 04, and FC Adler.

The tournament, which was first organized in 2015, included prominent names from Turkish and German football such as Yılmaz Vural, İbrahim Üzülmez, Recep Çetin, Ahmet Dursun, Cihan Haspolatlı, Hasan Kabze, Uğur Boral, Hakan Yakın, Ömer Erdoğan, Ömer Toprak, Erman Kılıç, Mert Korkmaz, Olaf Thon, Karim Haggui, Miroslav Stoch, Oliver Reck, Thomas Ziemer, Martin Driller, Altin Lala, and Thomas Helmer.

In the opening matches of the tournament, the match between Antalyaspor and Fenerbahçe ended in a 0-0 draw, while the Galatasaray vs. FC Adler match finished with a score of 1-1.

Yılmaz Vural, who served as the head coach of Fenerbahçe in the tournament, stated, “It’s a very nice tournament. It has been ongoing for 9 years. We came together to strengthen Turkish-German friendship and in memory of our colleague Christoph Daum. The purpose is to promote sports.”

“We are gradually starting to get involved”

Yılmaz Vural, known in the sports community for his dream of coaching Fenerbahçe, responded to the question about his role as Fenerbahçe’s coach in the organization, saying, “We are gradually starting to get involved. Of course, the heart always desires it. It is one of our goals. Hopefully, it will happen one day.”

Former footballer Mert Korkmaz said, “Every year we participate in this tournament as Galatasaray. It is a very nice event, and we are being hosted wonderfully. We met with our former teammates and friends we competed against. It’s a tournament that has been held in a sportsmanlike manner. Hopefully, we will win the cup as Galatasaray.”

Hasan Kabze expressed, “It’s very nice to be back on the field with our old friends. After all, we don’t see each other for a long time. The football field is a place we always see but cannot resist. It’s a beautiful tournament. I thank those who contributed.”

Uğur Boral stated, “This is my second time participating in this tournament. Last year, our friendships were strengthened, both with our German friends and our own friends. I value this tournament. I hope it will be held on a larger scale. That’s why we are very happy to be here.”
