Work is ongoing on the construction of the “Eskişehir Upper Sakarya İlyaspaşa Irrigation,” which will enable the irrigation of 44,030 decares of agricultural land in the Günyüzü district of Eskişehir with a modern piping system.

The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is working hard to popularize modern irrigation in agriculture, maximize the benefits from agricultural land through consolidation efforts, deliver healthy and potable water to taps, and protect settlements and agricultural areas from flood risks, while also taking care of every drop of water with a sustainable water management approach.

The increase in water structures built recently in Eskişehir and its districts plays a significant role in the development of agricultural activities in the region.

DSI General Director Mehmet Akif Balta stated that work is progressing rapidly on the construction of the “Eskişehir Upper Sakarya İlyaspaşa Irrigation,” which will enable the irrigation of 44,030 decares of agricultural land in the Kayakent, Çakmak, and Gümüşkonak neighborhoods of Günyüzü district in Eskişehir, as well as the Türktaciri, Tüfekçioğlu, Özyurt, and Kabak neighborhoods of Polatlı district in Ankara. With the completion of the project, it is aimed to achieve an income increase of approximately 9,500 TL per decare from irrigated agriculture, contribute 425 million TL annually to the national economy at 2024 prices, and create employment opportunities for 9,000 people.

Under the Upper Sakarya İlyaspaşa Irrigation project, which sources its water from the Eskişehir Gökpınar Dam, a total of 70,200 meters of pipe have been manufactured so far, including 39,000 meters of HDPE, 28,000 meters of CTP, and 3,200 meters of steel pipes. It is planned to manufacture a total of 82,600 meters of pipe and supply water to 21,000 decares of land within 2024.
